I agree with you that xaml can be the cause of many problems, but I am not particularu sure that it is the cause of this issue. In this case, if the problem is in xaml, we would experience the problem with EF5, since same VS IDE, same framework, same code. In this particular case, only the EF version was changed, and a different template is used, nothing else.
